5 ways to cozy up your home for early fall

5 ways to cozy up your home for early fall

Fall is officially tiptoeing in — the mornings feel crisp, the light is golden, and it’s finally sweater weather (in the morning anyway, by lunch it’s summer again). This is my favorite season to lean into slow living and make home feel extra warm and welcoming. Here are five of my favourite ways to cozy things up without filling your house with impersonal big box finds (I’m keeping it thoughtful, thrifted, and handmade around here).

1. Layer In Vintage & Antique Finds

There’s something about a well-loved piece of furniture or an odd little vintage trinket that instantly makes a space feel warm and storied. Think: a side table that looks like it’s seen some shit stacked with books, a milk glass vase filled with dried flowers, or a funky old portrait with a little mystery behind it. These kinds of pieces don’t just fill a space — they make it feel collected and personal.

(Pro tip: I’ve got a cute little spindle-legged table and wooden chair under “furniture” available but when they’re gone they’re gone!).

2. Light a Candle (or Three)

September is officially candle season in my book. I love mixing handmade soy candles with thrifted brass candlesticks for a cozy, old-world vibe. Bonus points if you burn something that smells like cinnamon, clove, or vanilla — it’s basically free aromatherapy and makes your house smell like you’ve been baking all day (even if you haven’t).

My fall candles come out in a couple days and they’re a limited run, just like the summer collection. Watch your emails - they go fast!

3. Add Handmade & Upcycled Touches

There’s something special about living with pieces that have a human touch. I like feeling connected to the items in my home and making your own is a way to attach some meaning to your pretty things. A few pieces of painted furniture or vintage frame with a fall print add a depth of character - and don’t worry, I’ve got you covered on both of the schedule just doesn’t permit time for DIYs this season.

4. Bake Something (Or Fake It)

Nothing says cozy like the smell of fresh-baked bread or cookies. If you’ve got time, whip up something delicious — but if not, you know I’ve got you covered. My frozen cookie dough pucks are perfect for this: bake two (or twelve) and your whole house smells like a bakery. You have my full permission to take any compliments from guests because technically you baked them and they are handmade (just not by you).

5. Make a Cozy Corner

If you’ve got a little nook perfect for a quiet fall evening, it’s time to cozy it up with a vintage quilt or some golden light from a new-to-you thrifted lamp. Even if there’s no nook, you can feel those fall vibes simply by adding a few pillows or blankets to your favourite spot on the couch. Bonus points for a cute little vintage tray located nearby for your tea & snacks!

The takeaway…

The key is layering what you already love — vintage pieces, handmade touches, good smells, and a little fresh baking — to create a space that feels personal and warm. Also remember it doesn’t have to be a lot - don’t get sucked in to the social media nonsense that you need 100 pastel coloured plastic pumpkins to enjoy your fall.

So light the candles, bake the cookies, and enjoy this sweet slow season. 🍁
